Anafi Thermal: Parrot’s Specialized Camera Drone

By James Bernard · On April 15, 2019

The company Parrot made its name in today’s drone scene offering alternatives to the drone giant DJI. Most of Parrot’s drones offer competitive specs at lower prices – sometimes even at over a hundred dollars difference.

While DJI is still the more successful of the two, Parrot still thrives in giving buyers an alternative. This is especially the case when the person has a budget in mind. This week, Parrot has another ‘hook’ for clients to try out their products. This time, it comes in the form of thermal cameras.

Anafi Thermal

The Parrot Anafi Thermal may not be for everyone’s tastes. It is a powerful thermal camera capable of capturing high-resolution images. This ‘thermal vision’ would be of great use for those trying to spot people in a large area.

Police, firefighters, and Search and Rescue for instance can use these specialized cameras to make work a lot more efficient. The Anafi Thermal provides amazing shots of wide areas with stunning accuracy. This makes it easier to locate lone individuals lost in the wilderness, for example.

A Closer Look

Of course, with these types of jobs in mind, it can be difficult to think of a benefit one may get as a casual drone flyer. The Anafi Thermal, priced at $1,900, is definitely not an upgrade civilian drone flyers would look for. It is, however, an important tool that can be added in surveillance and rescue missions. The price is also a bit of a heavy factor for those considering getting one. Keep in mind, top-tier drones from DJI, such as the Mavic 2 Pro, costs at around $1500. Would a high quality thermal camera be enough to offset the massive shift in prices? Would local authorities even consider getting a specialized drone such as this one, when cheaper varieties are available out there?
