With US and China’s relationship facing rocky waters, DJI’s stranglehold on the drone market may soon come to an end. Because of US and China’s deteriorating partnership, companies in the United States are less likely to use DJI brand products. Government contracts, projects, and plans also avoid DJI’s China-backed technology. This goes double for drones planned as security for entities all over the country.
The idea of foreign-made technology used in the country’s most sensitive divisions has soured over the past few years. Relying on another country’s creations to take care of your security needs may not be the wisest of ideas. The solution for the US is simple – find drones created from their own soil.
With DJI’s dominance on the drone market fading, could another company take their top spot?

Skydio Next in Line?
That contender may just be the US-based drone company Skydio. Skydio has released fantastic drones in the past few years, most of them centering on camera quality. Their ‘Selfie Drones’ offer a blend of excellent footage quality, amazing AI autonomy, and durable design. While their drones may be on the expensive side, the quality of their products more than makes it worth the price tag.
While their Selfie Drones are popular amongst recreational flyers, photographers, and filmmakers, what can they offer in terms of security? Drones in a more serious line of work must be able to handle tasks such as perimeter security and surveillance.
Autonomy and HD
Skydio’s drones exemplify the qualities necessary for this line of work. Their drones have high-definition cameras that can provide pristine footage over their domain. The AI behind these drones also make it possible to automate the routes and patterns, making them more efficient than regular security methods.
But will Skydio beat a proven brand like DJI? Skydio has so far only released a handful of drones compared to the many varieties and specializations made by DJI. Who will come out on top at the end?
