Maryland Successfully Receives Kidney Delivery by Drone

By D. Albert · On April 30, 2019

Drone deliveries are a great way to receive quickly an item you ordered. Now, they are utilized in roles more important than mere online shopping.
In Maryland, the future may have arrived.

Hospitals have started using them to transport medical supplies from large hospitals to rural areas. This saves a lot of time, as deliveries in farther areas usually take days, if not weeks to arrive. This is due to terrain factors, traffic conditions, and the speed of land transportation.

Maryland Kidney Delivery

What is the next step for drone deliveries, other than medicine, you ask? Well, in Maryland, USA, a drone recently delivered a donated kidney for transplant. This led to a successful surgery, and a person saved. The kidney arrived with no problems, and the person needing it received treatment quickly.

Speed Game

In the medical field, time is a very important factor. Organ transplants such as kidneys are even more so. Having a fast method of delivery can mean the difference between life and death. People in emergencies that require immediate surgery would have a higher chance of survival if supplies arrive immediately.

Benefits of Drone Couriers

A flying drone can simply breeze over crowded streets, slow moving traffic, and even hard-to-pass landscapes. Flying solves every single issue with speed when it comes to deliveries. In Africa for example, drones are pivotal in delivering blood, vaccines, and other medical supplies to far-flung villages. Away from the big cities, these areas usually expect supplies to arrive weeks, if not months after ordering. With drones, they can arrive within hours, even if they are incredibly far away.

Maryland the First of Many?

Remote places benefit greatly from drones as these couriers bypass the land obstacles that usually come with rural areas. We are talking about footpaths, hard to read maps, and dangerous terrain. A drone can simply fly past all these obstacles, giving those who need it the most a bit more hope.
